Two men collide on the same highway where their first crash occurred sixteen months earlier. Francis H. Patterson, 65, of Seale dies six hours after his car hits Sammy Brown Jr., 28, of Phenix City. Each man was alone in his vehicle in the head on collision.
An explosion and fire Sunday destroyed the Woodson Co-op Mill and Elevator near the courthouse square. Fire departments from Yates Center Chanute Burlington and Iola fought the blaze along with Woodson County rural units. The roof and top windows were blown out and the fire was under control by 1 30 p.m. No estimate of grain loss yet. cause under investigation. The facility stored wheat oats milo and corn used for area feeds.
Two Humboldt R F D 2 youths, Randy and Ronnie Stanley aged 16 and 14, were seriously injured when their Honda motorcycle collided with a 1966 Ford driven by Larry Bruenger five miles east and a mile south of Humboldt. They were treated at Osco Memorial Hospital and listed in satisfactory condition after surgery. Bruenger, cited for failing to reduce speed. The report also notes the newly elected city commission will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the Memorial Building with W. H. McMurray and E. J. New to be sworn in as commissioners.

Police report a busy weekend with nine juveniles and one adult taken to the station for curfew violations. All were released after varying detentions, two overnight. Incidents referred to juvenile authorities for further handling.
AFL-CIO chief George Meany and top union leaders met with Nixon administration officials in White Sulphur Springs to discuss inflation, unemployment fears, and budget cuts.
