Plant Explosion at U S Gypsum Plant Kills One
An explosion and ensuing fire at the U S Gypsum Co plant in Pittsburg Kansas killed one worker and seriously injured at least two others. One seriously injured worker was flown to the University of Kansas Medical Center for treatment of severe burns. The blast, likely from a dust collector, shook buildings within a block as firefighters contained the blaze.

Three Chanute men charged in drug heist
Chanute police charged Don Huerter Tony Booe and Ted Noland all 19 with burglary and theft in the Feb 25 break in at Baker Burkman and Dick Medical Associates Building at 1501 W 7th. Noland faces possession of stolen property charges. Police traced a truck and recovered narcotics needles and paraphernalia. All three are free on bond awaiting arraignment.

UPI reports from Washington that wind erosion in the Great Plains rose to 5.4 million acres damaged from last November through March. The drought‑hit southern Plains including Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas accounted for most loss.
