Mistake by enemy traps Vietnamese troops near Saigon

North Vietnamese forces moving toward Saigon from the southwest mistook silhouettes of American armored vehicles for huts and walked into a trap. Forty seven of about seventy five enemy soldiers were killed Tuesday night as machine guns from four armored personnel carriers opened fire. no U S casualties were reported. The clash occurred about 18 miles southwest of Saigon in open rice paddies under a moonless sky. A 9th Division officer said the attackers misjudged the darkness and the silhouettes.
