Drain repair underway at City Park drainage project
City workmen began a major drainage improvement at City Park, lifting existing tile with a machine and planning to relaid and extend the system. City Manager R J Hayes says undamaged tile will be reused where possible, most new tile needed, and the old lines had sunk too deep and clogged with mud and gravel. The relaid system will be set to proper level and grade, with runoff ditch drainage also examined in Katy railroad right of way. Use of the park for summer baseball has been limited due to poor drainage in recent seasons.

Thieves broke into the Mission State Bank drive-in in Mission Kansas early today and escaped with 4500 dollars. Four men were arrested later with two picked up near City Hall in Mission and two by Kansas City police. Investigators noted a bulletproof window entry and a failed roof break in. About 1800 dollars in coins and tens remained behind across Beverly Street. A crowbar was found outside the bank.
