Art Club Entertains With Dutch Music Program

The Art club met Wednesday afternoon with Mrs. N. C. Ricker hosting. The program titled Musical Day featured Dutch compositions, a duet by Misses Stedman and Collins, and performances by Miss Efe Harris, Misses Jeanette and Hazel Davidson, and students from the University musical school. A paper on Flemish music was read, Professor Ricker played aeolian pieces, local students sang medieval and modern songs, and Mrs. Harry Kendall closed with Wagner. Members and visitors enjoyed the concerts.

Mike Coughlin’s Advice to Young Men

Mike Coughlin of Kankakee, longtime Illinois Central railroad agent, warns youth away from railroading. Diphtheria Suspected in Fisher Village Health Concern

Fisher Hawaii March 8 reports six or more suspected diphtheria cases in and around the village. Three children died this winter from membranous illness. tests will be run on throat samples. No quarantines were in place for the suspicious cases as officials prepare examinations.

Widow of Bank Robber Held in Aurora Theft Case

In Aurora on March 8 police captured a man and a woman described as professional shoplifters. They stole goods and left them with an express company for shipment to Mrs Prince of Des Moines. They resisted aboard a Burlington train. three seats were broken. The woman is believed widow of Prince, the bank robber killed by a detective at Quincy four weeks earlier, and she reportedly carries diamonds amounting to about $60,000.

Dust Explosion at Torrey Mines in Clinton Ind

A major dust explosion occurred at the Torrey mines in Clinton Indiana late Wednesday evening. Three miners are probably fatally burned and about nine others seriously injured. Rescue efforts and investigations are underway to determine the cause and scope of the blast.

Mutual Aid Society Elects Officials at Springfield Biennial

In Springfield on March 8 the Independent Order of Mutual Aid elected officers for the biennial session. The Grand President is T. J. Scofield from Chicago, Grand Vice President George E.
