News from Frankfort Kentucky reports that William Goebel, rival to Governor Taylor, was shot in his Capital Hotel room. Five shots were fired from the executive building, one piercing his right side. he died shortly after. Governor Taylor ordered militia to prevent unrest as Whitaker of Butler was arrested with five pistols on his person.
