In Urbana circuit court Peter Moon sues the city of Champaign for $1000 claiming back salary as a police officer. He previously petitioned to reinstate after removal by Mayor Swigart under an act for appointing fire and police commissioners.
Huntington W Va Dec 16 The gas supply shutdown creates intense suffering for at least 7000 families. Huge bonfires blaze in many parts of town as hundreds gather. Practically all factories close and fuel cannot be secured for at least two days.
Madrid reports a violent storm on December 16 along the Spanish Mediterranean coast near Malaga and Ferrol. Fourteen fishing smacks were wrecked and a large number of lives were lost. twenty-two bodies have already washed ashore.
The Prohibition national committee met in Chicago to pick the venue for the next convention. Kansas City, Minneapolis, Los Angeles, Baltimore, and Indianapolis competed, with Kansas City favored to host. The committee set the convention for June 29.

UE GRAN MERCHANTS B F Glover and Son, New Orleans, sue J M Mullin and Sons of Seymour for $1,000 damages over an overdrawn sight draft. Glover claims five carloads of corn valued at $3,000 were drawn, but the grain was worth only about $2,000, prompting the suit to recover the $1,000 difference.
Frank Bittinger, president of the Nicaragua Co., a land concern, was sentenced to one year in jail and fined $1,000 for using the United States mails to defraud. The firm drew investments from many in the Midwest.
University trustees purchase William Maguire property for 5500 dollars in addition to the Ira Allen property bought for 7000 dollars. Buildings will be moved from the lots, which will join the University grounds.
