Death of Merrit V Cupperwell at Rantoul
Merrit V Cupperwell died at his home two miles southeast of Rantoul after a two week illness from gallstones. Born near Sackett's Harbor New York in 1838 he married Mary Melissa Proper in 1859 and moved to Rantoul in 1870. He left nine children surviving with seven others and was a miller by trade and a church MFE member serving as Masonic lodge chaplain. His last act was aiding a Masonic brother during a night call.
