The council proposes a levy totaling 62,700 for general, streets, light, water, library, and other municipal needs. The session discussed equipment and machinery to brace the winter and a new dump site, with Alderman Pluck present and Weaver leading the financing request.
City aldermen discussed paving New Street over the site of a municipal parcel. Members debated feasibility and costs, naming names and figures such as News, Witt, Beers, and others while noting payments and claims from several entities.
A man caused a disturbance in the city jail area during a spree led by a small boy who played guitar and solicited coins. The subject, intoxicated, was taken to a lodging house near the corner of Main and Walnut streets, fined, and later released on promise.
Columbus Aug 26 The Ohio democratic state convention nominated Mayor Tom Johnson of Cleveland for governor. Johnson holds a large majority of delegates and 19 of 21 state central committee members, ensuring a national convention support for his president bid. The convention also supported Clarke over Bryan on the U S Senate issue and backed a platform for direct senator elections by popular vote.
Admiral Barker anchors in Portland Harbor and leads a squadron that breaks the Kraes bow and defeats the army of the defense, driving a sharp blow to the city’s defensive forces this morning.
Mrs. N. Cook formerly of Champaign now living in Indianapolis was hit by a street car while riding in an automobile Sunday. She was dragged a considerable distance and is reported in serious condition at the Lorraine hotel with her husband. She is well known in Champaign, having lived on West Hill street five years ago.

In a 10000 dollar civil suit Miller of Champaign County alleges false arrest by A H Fletcher of Pesotum after a land dispute. Fletcher previously sued Miller for 2000 and was defeated. Miller’s attorney is G D Thomas. Meantime Company M enjoys Springfield camp life with marksmanship scores and state fish commissioner Nat Cohen sending cigars and fish. Baseball schedule remains empty.
Miss Gertrude Van Brandt, daughter of Samuel Van Brandt of 108 West Green Street, narrowly escaped injury when her horse bolted and the buggy toppled. She maintained control of the reins as the exhausted horse fell, escaping with only minor injuries claimed by witnesses.

Mrs Daisy Neville wife of Chari Neville of Urbana died Tuesday after typhoid fever. Born August 10 1880 in Glenwood Indiana she lived most of her life in Urbana. Survived by husband Charles and a three year old daughter. Funeral at 10 from Urbana Congregational Church Reverend G D Lawrette to officiate if back from Atwood burial at St Hope Cemetery.
A faulty lead joint in a waterworks pipe caused a water outage Tuesday evening. Superintendent Arebary said the incident affected the plant until repairs were made and the line is secured to prevent a recurrence.
The remains of Mrs Roma Witt arrived Wednesday. A funeral service was held at St Peter's Evangelical church in the afternoon conducted by Rev. Suesemuth. Interment followed at Mt. cemetery.
