Mrs. Jaques exonerates Burr, who is distraught over the incident.

In Meade Kansas on August 21 W J Fe wards of Plains was shot and killed during the night. His sons Don and Roy surrendered confessing they committed the shooting. No motive is known.

This morning Company M heads to Springfield for an eight day training camp. Soldiers are ordered to report at the armory at six o'clock and depart before seven. Friday evening the company held a dance at the Etk auditorium with good music and a fine time.
In Staley neighborhood residents held a neighborhood picnic in the woods near Mahomet on Thursday. About seven persons attended and a glorious time was enjoyed by all. Weather was favorable and the gathering fostered community spirit.

Secretary Wilson said the cotton pool has manipulated prices, cornered the market, and damaged U S mills by withholding raw cotton. He cited $7,000,000 in gains, imports from Africa, and rising foreign competition as motives for increased U S cotton production while noting 12 cent cotton prices encourage foreign producers.
A freight locomotive derailed near Springfield Friday around 9 AM after passing an open switch. Minors aboard the engine were switching cars when the engine entered the switch too late to stop. Two pairs of wheels left the track tearing guard-rail boards as frogs were placed under drivers and the engine rejoined the rails. Track crews quickly repaired twisted rails and reopened the line.
In Urbana on Thursday evening a spiritualistic circle gathered at Mrs John Caldwell's home. Participants described a trumpet circle and stated that messages were well received from spirits during the spirit work.
