A man named Winanl Griffith, heavily intoxicated, dozed on the Big Pour tracks near the depot in Urbana. Agent Layfield found him with rails nearby and escaped injury, while Edward likely would have suffered harm. The drunken man faced a magistrate who fined him $3 and costs. no money was paid.
A foggy morning near Hart Indiana caused a headon collision between an eastbound passenger train and a westbound freight. One engineer was seriously injured as visibility was reduced, and several other crew members sustained injuries. A riot at the Buffalo Furnace Co. works, owned by Senator Mark Hanna, began after a shouted taunt at non-union workers. About a hundred shots were fired. officers intervened, fifty arrests made, and there were numerous injuries as the crowd dispersed.
Cynthiana Ky Aug 3 The prosecution in the trial of Jett and White for Marcum’s assassination nears a cross after eight state witnesses remain to be examined. J B Little testified about White’s arrest at his home twenty five miles from Jackson and the arrest details this morning.
At First Methodist church the Epworth League held a 7:45 pm meeting replacing the regular service. Rev W A Smith Miss Pinkie Moore and G H Wilson reported on the Detroit convention and shared league activities at home and abroad with musical features by the choir and several soloists.
Mrs. John Robinson of 1157 Aldrich avenue North Minneapolis Minnesota died at Julia F Burnham hospital Saturday night from stomach trouble She was 35 visiting in the southern part of the state en route home Friday when she was taken ill on the train An ambulance took her to the hospital Mr Robinson arrived today The family is in limited circumstances She had insurance with a local agency and funds for funeral expenses were advanced for burial in Champaign

The Champaign All-Stars leave tomorrow afternoon for Loda to play their third contest against the Loda nine. Jackson, who pitched well at Roberts recently, will start for Loda while Champaign players plan to practice for the Pittsburg game. Urbana also faces the All-Stars Wednesday as locals expect a first class contest and a large crowd for Friday’s Pittsburg game, possibly the last of the local season.

A large electric fax on the ceiling of Ben Long's barter shop collapsed soon after starting this morning. It fell onto a marble wash stand at the center, causing alarm but no reported injuries. The accident halted activity while repairs were arranged.

Bar Harbor Maine August 2 six American warships formed the enemy in the minute attack on the New England coast Wednesday. The fleet sailed today continuing the confrontation with the aggressor forces.
James Webb, known for boxing, pleaded guilty to intoxication and fighting after attacking a fifteen year old delivery wagon driver on North Neil Street Saturday night. He was fined 22.50. Other offenders included J A Fitzgerald fined 3.50 for intoxication and Tra J Jones fined 5.59 after being found riding a train illegally.
In Pittsburgh on August 5 2000 workers across building trades including ironworkers carpenters bricklayers painters decorators and plumbers were locked out. The move halted numerous public projects leaving several schools and other facilities unfinished as fall term approaches.
Two bodies found in a Worcester deeryard this morning. F. P. Gam and Mrs. Hadie Footh were discovered with throats cut. Police label the case murder and death by own action. The woman had separated from her husband.
