In Chehalis yesterday an election approved 637 votes to 42 for a $185,000 municipal gravity water system bond issue. Total turnout was 679 of 1,008 registered. Ward totals show strongest support from Hast Ward, West Ward, South Ward.
W j Rue a barber active in Lewis and Pavili counties was found dead in his lodging house room. Coroner inspection suggested death by self inflicted poisoning with carbolic acid amid notes to engineer B R Johnson. Rue had suffered insanity claims parents murdered in South Bend and had worked in Raymond and South Bend before recent confinement. An inquest was planned. suicide deemed likely.
United Press Leased Wire reports that officials of the steel trust ordered subordinates to burn all evidence of law breaking as a federal suit was filed. Worcester plant official Harris Whitney testified destruction was by order of president Frank Wadkes of American Steel & Wire. Whitney also said President Baackes pressured him to shield the destruction in grand jury testimony.
In Washington on May 8 the public attended a hearing into charges against Judge Robert Archibald of the Court of Commerce before the house judiciary committee. Taft papers were examined in secret as chairman Clayton announced seven new witnesses will be called.

A legal clash at the Superior coal mines in Chehalis ended when Justice P C Beaufort dismissed charges against three foreign strikers charged with threatening three strike breakers. The case, tried in Chehalis court, had awaited a decision since Monday.
The Chehalis city commission received a telegram from a Chicago firm warning against more street construction using current concrete, claiming a government patent on the material. Mayor Coleman dismissed the telegram as you would discard junk.
The noon luncheon of the Citizens' Club in Chehalis focused on City Parks. Dr. G. W. Kennicott served as toastmaster and speeches were given by B. A. Bartholomew and other club members.

Taft opened his day in Peebles Ohio addressing 1500 listeners at Batavia at six this morning. He denounced Roosevelt and referenced him in all fifteen of his speeches, shaping a sharp contrast with the former president.
United Press dispatch from Portland reports about eighty five officers and 900 enlisted men of the entire First Infantry preparing to board the transport Rhodian for Honolulu. The unit has been stationed at Vancouver barracks awaiting departure.

Dalwas Texas May 8 Fully reported returns show Wilson with 337 delegates to the state convention, Sturman 124 and Clark 41. Roosevelt holds a delegation to the Republican state convention and Taft 39, leaving Roosevelt with a path to the national convention through the Texas body.
In a recent city election 1,973 registered voters produced 1,554 ballots, with 824 for and 660 against the water proposition. Spoiled or inconsistent ballots totaled 70, and even if all such ballots favored the measure, it would still fail to reach the 60 percent threshold. An advisory vote on electric light bid specifications also failed, with a statewide breakdown showing strong opposition in most wards.
Claude Bills, Centralia aviator, returns with a Curtis bi plane to be assembled at the fair grounds. Dave Harper says trial flights will precede a June 1 festival flight at the Hub City event during the Southwest Washington Development Association midsummer meeting. Berlin plans further flights at Seattle Potluck and Portland Rose Carnival. He received a foreign flight license and is the Northwest's only licensed resident aviator.
Washington May 8 government flood experts say Mississippi valley floods have caused about fifty million dollars in damage and may double. Cotton damage is noted as especially severe. Congress has appropriated two million two hundred fifty thousand dollars for relief, with potential further increases.
