Conductors Struggle to Collect Fares After Fair Grounds Crowd
The Washington Oregon Corporation faced trouble collecting fares from crowds returning from the Fair Grounds. The first car carried about 400 passengers but only 67 fares were bought. Some alighted before city limits. later cars halted at the trestle to wait until every fare was paid. An estimated 8000 people attended the afternoon game and transport ran late to manage stragglers back to Carlisle.

City outs on salary of justice city outs on salary of justice
The records of the office of Justice of the Peace Hoss show a distinct saving on his salary. If Judge Hoss were holding his office on a fee system instead of drawing a salary, he would have received $115.10 last month instead of $190 salary. The records of his office show that he received in cash for civil cases during June $84.35 and in state cases $30.75, all in fees which were turned in. The fines amounted to about $30 and 29 criminal cases came up before him as justice of the peace and as police judge. His other work included issuance of warrants and other legal papers.

The funeral of Frank W. Bigger, the little son of Gottlib Bigger of Chehails, took place in Centralla this afternoon. Interment was in Washington Town cemetery. The boy died yesterday at home. Requiem high mass was celebrated in the Catholic church of Chehalis this morning by Rev. Father Pigpatrek, in the absence of Rev. Wathor Muang. Pallbearers were selected from the boy’s friends.
