Fire at Hub City Hole Earlier Morning
Fire of secondary origin reported at the Hub City Hole at about 1 30 this morning. A plate of waste soaked in machine oil under a car beam in the rear started the blaze. Powell hotel proprietor’s son saw smoke and alerted others. Fire department wires appeared burned or severed. locals extinguished with water. Police investigations find no suspect yet.

Man Arrested for Passing Counterfeit Bank Note
Alan Bisson, alias William Bisson, arrested about 3 am at the Hub City Hotel on a charge of passing counterfeit money. He had allegedly occupied a room at the Royal Rooming House, gave a bad ten dollar bill, and received seven dollars in change from Mrs. W. J. Miller. He pled guilty before a justice and was bound over to the Superior Court under a $500 bond. A companion was detained briefly but released. The note purportedly dated 1837 and issued by a South Carolina bank.

Runaway Girls Charged With Forgery
W M Johnson, father of Nettie and another Johnson, two high school girls who ran away from their homes in the city Monday, arrived in Centralia and swore out a warrant for his daughter's arrest on forgery. He seeks to compel their return home as authorities search for the pair. The girls left after visiting the New York Grove where they paid a deposit on two fur coats they had ordered.
