Centralia leaders broker a game plan with Portland Beavers, top Coast League club, for a challenge at the Tair Grounds early next week. The Beavers, pennant holders, are expected to draw a large crowd as Centralia tests local players against major league circles.
A nine year old boy, Richard Wells of Chebails, was fatally injured Monday night when he fell on a sharp stick while near improvised stills in his back yard. He was rushed to St. Helen's hospital but doctors warned severe internal damage would be fatal, with death expected at any hour.
United Press Teletype notes that the Southern Pacific Railroad in San Francisco issued orders effective immediately barring women from employment as clerks or stenographers in the passenger departments. Officials cite marriages and perceived physical unfitness for advancement as reasons for the policy.
A flock of about 40 turkeys was stolen from Fred Anderson's farm on slide road near Centralia on August 2. Mrs Hanna Anderson, the owner, is aiding efforts to locate the thief or thieves. Police note that seeing anyone with such a large number would raise suspicion and expect the culprits to be captured soon.

Upton Sinclair and ten associates from the Arden single tax colony were jailed in Newcastle County workhouse for 10 hours each after pleading guilty to violating the Sunday blue law. They were fined $4 and costs each, except Freil Steinline who was fined $8 and costs. all refused to pay. All received baths upon admission per prison rule.
Palouse politicians started a boom to name Justice Stephen J. Chadwick of the State Supreme Court for Governor. Chadwick is a foremost member of the state judiciary with a large personal following, and Whitman County faces obstacles to his candidacy as the rule requires a top bench occupant to seek state office.
Chebalis property owners win after Cascade avenue improvement costs far exceeded the $6,000 city estimate. The court sustains their argument resisting payment of the excess, approving the new precedent. George W. Robinson secured the contract for $14,000 and work was done by Bim, with ruling favoring the owners against the excessive charge.
The two and a half year old son of Attorney Gus Thacker of Chebhalls drank gasoline from a glass left on the ground while his mother mopped nearby. He showed distress, a doctor was summoned, restoratives were given, and the child is now out of danger.
The Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints will hold a fourfold reunion on church lots at Jackson and Pearl in Centralia. A vast gathering from Washington and nearby states is expected with attendees including J. F. Sheehy missionary in charge, Evangelist Keeler, Elder Cook of Portland, W. M. Johnson and G. W. Thorburn of Seattle. An invitation extends to all churchgoers to attend and a record attendance is predicted.
Residents of Gali street petition the city council to ease heavy dust from car traffic. Construction on Tower Avenue redirects traffic, creating a thick dust layer about a foot deep on Gold Street.
In Washington on August 2 officials and White House aides avoided discussion of the president s tariff stance. Repub stand patters say Taft will push farm and wool duties if Congress reconvenes, while the White House refuses comment and veto threats appear likely to be dropped or altered before any action.

An all day open air Lutheran mission festival will be held August 6 at Sommerville Park between Centralla and Cheadlig on the Interurban line. Attendees may drive, with horses penned at Mr. Barton's farm west of the car barns. Rev. C H Lund, D D of Settle is invited to give the English address, with the interim pastor speaking in German. A congregational dinner will be served.
The funeral of Edward Fall, a well known Lewis County youth, drowned near Chehalis last Saturday, was held from his home in Ethel this afternoon. The body was moved from Sticklin parlors in Chehalis earlier today and interment took place at the Ethel cemetery with many Chehalis friends attending.
