Local Travel and Social Wild Turmoil in Centralia District

A string of brief notes from Centralia and nearby towns records visits and sickness. A. L. James was in Centralia on Sunday Perry Remley has been sick. Bennie Leiter was in Oakville on business last week. Mrs Samuel James was in Centralia earlier in the week. E C Morris and wife returned from Seattle last Saturday. Theodore Hoss made a flying business trip to Grand Mound on Monday. William West of Chehalis visited friends in Grand Mound last week. John Cash and wife rented a restaurant at Tenfio and left Sunday to take charge. Mr and Mrs Willis troupe of Bacoda spent Saturday night and Sunday with Mr and Mrs W G Parker. A social for the M E Church is planned for next Saturday night for the minister’s benefit. Charlie James went to Centralia on the afternoon train. he missed the evening train and walked eight miles home. Mrs J O Partich, visiting here, plans to join her husband and live there.

Whlock The Pilot wedding reception at Recreation Club

The Tuesday event featured a five hundred game led by W. W. Every with guests enjoying Hawaiian pineapples from Honolulu. Refreshments included a wedding cake and a playful toast tying the islands to the couple.

City Council Session Adopts Street Sign Offer and Reports

City council met with Mayor Miller presiding. The Pyramid Flour Co. offered street signs for five years and was approved to display ads under street names. The judiciary and street committees received time and tasks on Northwest Telephone, road grades on Silver Street, and tower lot measurements, while finance and audit issues were reviewed. The executive session addressed vault security and the clerk's sealed combination, with a plan to deposit it in a bank.

Commissioners Appoint Justice of the Peace in Lith Fila

The board reassigns duties and sets a hearing date for road matters. John Estine is appointed Justice of the Peace for the extended town of Lith Fila, with qualifications to be met. The board approves a road application bond and lists numerous road district expenditures and bids. A survey is ordered for the current route between Morton and the Eastern By Company wagon road, with bids invited for related work.

Drownings After Tug Fearless Altercation

Edward Paggett and George Hoss fell overboard during a fight aboard the tug Fearless in Tacoma harbor. Hoss and Paggett are presumed drowned with Ross body recovered. Paggett’s fate remains unresolved. Searchlight scene shows Paggett in shallow water. inquest delayed until Paggett’s fate is settled.

Centralia Bakery Fire Destroys Powell Shop on East Front

Firefighters battled a blaze Saturday at Fred Powell’s Centralia bakery on the Union Pacific right of way East Front Street. The interior furnishings and baking tools were destroyed, stock spared, and Powell planned to bake again at the new Tower Avenue site after selling the building.
