City Council Elects Davies Chairman Pro Tem In Regular Session
Centralia City Council met Tuesday evening with Gilchrist and Martin absent. Mr Davies was elected chairman pro tem. The council amended the Madison license to seven fifty per month, discussed hydrant needs and street openings, directed police to enforce orders, and tabled uncompleted items for Thursday’s meeting. The ordinance granting to Centralia Electric & Power Co. updated to reflect pole use and power sales passed its second and third readings.

Capt and Mrs Forrest Celebrate Golden Wedding in Dryad
Capt and Mrs M W Forrest celebrated their golden wedding with daughter Mrs Mary Luedinghaus in Dryad last Monday March 12. They spent the anniversary at the home of their son J T Forrest professor of mathematics at the state normal school in Bellingham. He was born September 26 1833 in Indiana and moved with his parents to Lee county Iowa in 1887. They moved to Jefferson county Iowa in 1844 as the treaty with the Indians permitted. Mrs Hattie Smith Forrest was born May 12 1833 in Indiana and emigrated to Jefferson county Iowa in 1845. They have two brothers Thos B Smith of Abingdon Iowa and W I Forrest state land commissioner now an abstractor in Seattle. In 1859 Forrest moved from the farm to Martinsburg and ran a mercantile business. In 1862 he resigned as postmaster and helped recruit Company F of the Thirty third Iowa Infantry, serving as captain. After the war he engaged briefly in commerce at Batavia, then returned to farming until 1896. They had eight children. oldest son C F Forrest and family were visiting in Chehalis, a daughter Mrs C O Phelps resided in Iowa, and the youngest Lee Forrest was in Arizona for health. They have nine grandchildren. The captain has held many offices and is now a four year commander of the G A R and a member of Lewis county Pioneer Association. The Forrests have been Baptist church members for nearly fifty years.
