Lewis County Board Grants Franchise and Town Incorporation

Lewis County commissioners grant a public franchise to Centralia Chehalis Electric Ry and Power Co for lines over county roads and elect a town of Little Falls, Wa. Hearing on Litt Falls incorporation was held with approval and a route survey ordered. Also approved liquor licenses for Diyad and Little Palle and ordered tax adjustments and numerous bill payments. continued discussions on city lighting upgrades and street lighting expansion.

City council tackles lights and debts in December session

The December fifth adjourned council meeting debated street lighting and delays blamed on the centralia Electric & Power Co. Council considered pausing Theo Hos’s bid, while plans to pursue collection from Bloomer and Somerville progressed. An inspector flagged a 1600 state debt over a saloon license. The finance committee was told to estimate book-examination costs. General Electric guaranteed new arc lights, contract signed, fixtures due within seven weeks.

Grand Banner Contest Attracts Votes For Free Association Banner

The CenTRALIA News-Examiner runs a grand banner contest with votes earned by new subscriptions one dollar equals ten votes old subscribers paying owed back or paid in advance yield 100 votes job work yields 50 votes The banner is displayed at P R Stehl's Drag Store and a ballot box will be set up The winner receives a national banner and results are published weekly

Burch Wins Land Claim Battle Before Seattle Office

Attorney Frank Burch has received the decision in his favor against homestead claimant Matt Strommer in a contest before the U S Land Office at Seattle. The tract is valued at 410,000 and largely cedar timber. Burch acted as his own attorney with A A Anderson of Seattle and Jensie Murphy of Aberdeen Wash representing the claimant.

Chehalis Official Stabbed by Gambler in Centralia Encounter

Lawrence, the city electrician, was dangerously stabbed Friday evening by Huber Harper, a gambler from Winlock. A fight erupted after previous confrontations with Mallen and blacksmith M. L. Webster. Harper was captured minutes later by Sheriff Urquhart and Deputy Schlittler. Lawrence survived with severed hand and neck wounds, while Harper, living in Centralia, had been staying at Hoard's hotel.

Market Quotations Show Holiday Veal and Poultry Demand

Strong demand for veal and poultry to meet holiday trade. Hay grain and produce trade similar to last week except beets carrots and parsnips up slightly. Apples native and Yakima prices, potatoes and onions listed, vegetables and hay prices noted with corrections by Howland Produce Co. of Centralia.
