Mrs. H F Hall, 93, longtime Benton county resident of Vinton, died last evening at her daughter's home. She had fractured her hip eight months ago and was bedfast since. Born Phoebe Ann Hazeltine in 1833, she married Oct 11, 1852, in Beloit Wisconsin. Funeral Monday at 2 pm from the Howland residence with Rev W G Rowley. interment Ever Breen cemetery.
Last evening a social gathering at the Iowa School for the Blind honored Supervisor F. E. Peker on his birthday. Over 336 students and teachers attended the quiet event in the library where the group sang Happy Birthday and presented a gift to the guest of honor. Mrs Palmer gave favors to each guest.
After a two year illness from cancer, Harry Imler, 30, died this morning at his sister Mrs Henry Grant's home. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2:30 from the Grant home, with Reverend C. W. Sliver presiding. Burial in Evergreen cemetery. He is survived by two sisters Mrs Bets Gent and Mrs Susie Scott both of Vinton, and three brothers Charlie of Jericho, Uriah, and Evanna.
The Standard Oil motorboat Mei Yung was fired upon in the Famnetse River near Shashi. one Chinese employee was killed. The state department was advised to take action. No other Mexican vessel attacks were reported.
Hrs T C Black recalls childhood experiences in 1856 as her family moved from Boone County Indiana to Winter Iowa. She later married TL OG Breek, built a farm, raised five children, taught in Vinton schools, and endured an Indian tragedy at Parker's Grove with a buried papoose near the cemetery fence. Her children include Frances Lackey and Virginia Lackey, with two grandchildren noted.
