Cloudy tonight with possible light rain, frost in western areas if skies clear. Illinois sees unsettled conditions with a chance of showers and cool temperatures Sunday. Wisconsin is mostly cloudy with showers likely in eastern and southern parts tonight and Sunday.
Frank Collicott was knocked down by a Hutchinson Co delivery truck while crossing 2nd avenue at 7th street. He suffered a sprained right ankle and possible leg fracture, with an X-ray to be taken later at the city hospital. Judd, the truck driver, stopped the vehicle and, after bringing Collicott to Dr Griffin’s office, was noted as a careful driver.
Washington May 10 The funeral of Mrs Work wife of the secretary of the interior will be held Monday afternoon at the White House President Coolidge offered the use of the White House as the secretary resides at a hotel in the capital The body will be brought to the White House at 11 am and services will be private at 2 pm Burial will follow in Arlington National Cemetery The Interior Department will be closed in respect and social functions in the capital postponed The President Mrs Coolidge cabinet officials and diplomatic corps will attend Dr Wallace Radcliffe pastor emeritus of the New York Avenue Presbyterian church will conduct the service Mrs Work died of a heart attack while returning to the Wardman Park Hotel where she lived She was born in Madison Indiana and married Dr Work in Colorado
Florence Arizona May 10 Warden R B Sims denied reports the father of Ted Gross the 19 year old Arizona University student will be allowed to spring the trap at the Ward execution set for June 20 Ward a negro is to hang for Gross murder The warden said the execution will be carried out strictly under the law and no one will be permitted to participate in any act of revenge
At a city hall inspection 25 active firemen reviewed seven fire calls since January 2 1924 with only 34.92 dollars in damage. Copper depot area blaze nearly destroyed the structure before aid arrived. Hose Co No 3 disbanded on the reserve list. some members to honor roll or truck company. Dumper demonstration at courthouse corner noted. Inventory shows equipment worth over 10000 dollars. City council met with firefighters amid congratulatory speeches. Water use explained as only necessary when blazes exceed control.
Dublin reports Joseph McGrath who resigned as minister of industry and commerce in the Free State Env indicates readiness to launch a new national party to promote territorial unity and complete independence of all parts of the realm.

Epworth League hosts the annual Old Folks reception at the M B Church on May 22. Community seniors invited to gather for fellowship and refreshments at the church hall following services.
Bryan explains he was out of town when the ticket for operating a motor vehicle without a license DL was issued. He says the truck was purchased from another and not intended for use at that time, kept at his business, with no present plans to drive it. In his absence an employee with access drove it onto the street.
Coroner I T Hunt faced irregularities in filing petitions as Bessie Rice the Urbana postmistress signed the affidavit after Hunt’s name was erased. Rice swore she circulated the papers before notary L J Kirkland, fixing the record. One petition also quoted Lulu B Bland from Hugh Mossman’s office. After Rice’s oath the papers were accepted and admitted to record.
Howard Hayden, a young Lincoln taxi driver, was sentenced to one year in the county jail for violating the Mann Act after pleading guilty to taking a trip to Topeka Kansas with Mrs. Florence Maples seven years his senior. Hayden contended he had not paid her fare.
Pittsburgh May 10 at least 35 people were overcome by carbon monoxide gas in the northbound tunnel to South Hills after an auto collision jammed traffic. More than twenty were rushed to hospitals as rescuers struggled amid darkness and fumes with pumps and gas masks. No deaths reported. tunnel closed for investigation and safety checks.
At Grinnell College a mock National Republican convention nominated Judge W S Kenyon of Iowa for president on the fourth ballot amid deadlocks between Brookhart and Coolidge factions. Charles A Rowson of Des Moines was named vice president. Kenyon won 120 votes beyond the required threshold, offered as a compromise by John T Adams of Dubuque.
Three bandits held up the Indiana Harbor post office early today and fled in a touring car with four sacks of registered mail bound for Indiana banks. They tied up Supt. Edward Standish and four clerks. More sacks were believed missing. at least 35000 dollars were in two bags.
The senate defeated the Mellon administration tax plan by a 69 to 15 vote, rejecting the proposed two-tier structure and 25 percent reduction, saying it would shift the burden to millionaires and big corporations. Democrats and insurgents praised the result as relief for salaried and small-business taxpayers while Republicans loyal to the plan warned of revenue losses and urged changes in conference.

Des Moines May 10 A coroner s verdict of accidental death from carbon monoxide gas was returned in the case of Falk J Younker 55 pioneer Des Moines businessman found dead in a garage at his home last night His wife found the body while calling him to dinner He had been working on his automobile with the garage doors closed He was formerly a member of Younker Brothers firm.
May 10 The United States Bureau of Investigation may be operated in the future under the direct control of the attorney general. After a White House conference with President Coolidge Attorney General Stone said he might not name a successor to Wm. J. Burns and could run the bureau himself or appoint one of his assistants.
