Local residents including Mr and Mrs Guy Halsh Miss Sarah Moulds and Mrs WS Robbins were seen in Cedar Rapids Shellsburg Vinton and Boone. Trades and health notes mingle with visits to J G Geyer Mrs Anna Grossenbacher and others. A bake sale and bazaar for the M E church is planned for April 8 and a Mt Auburn school break follows scarlet fever. Gerald Stewart undergoes tonsil and adenoid surgery recoveries noted.
Dr C O Stookey visited Shellsburge last evening while Mrs Dave Ransdall spent time in Garri son at her daughter Mrs Paul Henkie’s home. Mrs Robert Flick returned to Waterloo after a week with relatives. Mr and Mrs HW Gessner visited Dysart today at Dr Gessner’s home. Mrs Helen K May of Kansas City may visit W D Stoller’s family today or tomorrow. Clark Hayward returned from Mt Auburn after work there since the past week. Henry Buxton misses school due to flu but is recovering. Women friends called on Mrs Horace Basley and shared light refreshments. Mrs T A Boone improving in Rochester and hopes to return by April 1. An advance notice announces the public sale of harness under J E Keith, to be called by Col Hite, with details to be posted downtown Saturday. The W R GC will present the Church of Christ a flag Sunday evening. the G A R Post and Relief Corps will attend. Legion quartet to perform. An Ashby and Manuel sale ad lists stock, autos, two new drags, and other items not in the ad.
Garrison enters spring elections Monday with two nearly complete slates. The spag City ticket is led by Herman J. Rozema with candidates for council and two for treasurer and assessor. The Citizens ticket is headed by Win Crager with council hopefuls Nic Gress John Neve Claude Earnhardt CG Gordon and Arthur Sidenour. The clash pits progressives against conservatives in a bitter contest.
Washington March 23 The treasury reports a shortfall of about 200 million dollars this year due to March 15 income tax payments lagging behind prior returns as the House moves to pass the soldiers bonus bill, widening fiscal burden.
Rurals Lewis Kegleston and Harry Green of Cedar township report a large windmill with a sixty four foot tower erected on the Hattie Watts farm, put up by William Leatham of this city. The Yerkes family southeast of town hosts Mrs Yerkes mother Mrs Bridge of Cedar Rapids who arrived in Vinton this morning. Mr and Mrs Arlen Smith and baby, from the countryside west of town, visited Mrs Smith's mother and relatives in Cedar Rapids today.
Clarence Stickney returned from the state college at Ames to help his father Geo Stickney on the farm southwest of town. He plans to return to college this spring. Mrs Stickney was in Cedar Rapids yesterday to meet her son.
Members of the Church of Christ congregation will gather for a Friday banquet in the church dining room. The speaker will be H. C. Orchard of Cedar Rapids, a Redpath Vawter Bureau lecturer, promising a pleasant evening for attendees. Women donating to the banquet should contact Mrs. G. E. King, Mrs. J. A. McVay, or Mrs. Lawrence Douglass.
Mrs. Geo. Pollock sister of M. A. and Ed Randall of this city died yesterday afternoon in Cedar Rapids after a week of illness. Funeral planned in Cedar Rapids Friday afternoon. Ed Randall went to Cedar Rapids to stay until after the funeral. M. A. Randall and wife will travel down tomorrow morning. Also notes local sharpening services with prices from P. J. Lane of Ur bana Iowa.

Funeral services for Char ley Hennings were held in Keystone with burial in Keystone cemetery. He died suddenly last Wednesday from cerebral apoplexy at age sixty three while in his home at 230 pm. He had lived in Benton county for eleven years. Survived by widow and two children William Hennings and Mrs John Tauck, plus one brother Frank Hennings and half sister Mrs Sophia Bulhorn.
A ditch filling demonstration will be held at RE Mitchell's farm in Benton township next Friday afternoon March 31 at 1 00 o clock. W Q Brant will show filling ditches and stopping washes on farm land by spring rains. All interested are invited to attend.
An orchard demonstration will be held at Ralph Stainbrook’s farm in northern Harrison township on Wednesday after noon March 29 at 1:00. The event aims to show proper pruning and care for orchards and discuss forming a spray ring for the township. Meanwhile nurse coverage at Luckey hospital rooms shifts to Mrs. Wm. Swaim due to Mrs. Carrie Seely’s illness from a flu attack. she is expected to be out several days.
The Canton township Farm Bureau will meet Tuesday evening March 28 in the Sehlisburg community club rooms. A 7:00 p.m. screening will be followed by a program by the committee. Miss Sparks discusses Raising of Baby Chicks. W. Q. Brant leads a discussion on the new Farmers Live Stock Commission entering the Chicago market in April. Public urged to attend.
