Town records show Perry city council cutting eleven mills from the 1925 tax levy. Other Iowa items include Waverly hens laying 4900 eggs, Adel paving contracts costing about 40000, and Clayton county soil survey starting after delays.
The Daily Times and Vinton merchants launch a guessing contest on Benton county attendance with a 350 total prize and a 5 gold piece for the best idea. Entrants file submissions at the Daily Times office, up to 300 words, with equal chance for all. The winner is chosen by the idea, not writing style.
Ti Marks a Vinton businessman unable to meet debts abandons his stock of men s and boys furnishings and leaves last night presumed for Minneapolis. A letter to attorney Hugh Mossman says he closed the store to pay personal debts in the city. Creditors estimate stock indebtedness around 1100 with a large rank file. Indications are the defunct business will be bankrupted. His wife and daughter remain in Minneapolis and he is believed to plan to go into business at Mexico City.
Deputy Sheriff John Ruhl to bring Juvius Thint and Louis McWhorter to the county jail after their arrest on a charge of violating the prohibition laws. Meagre information available this afternoon noted the two youths from this city were involved.

Shoes from the grave were heard in district court today as litigation began to clear title to a 10 acre tract in Big Grove township left by E. H. Clark who died here twenty seven years ago. The will left one quarter to the Educational Aid Society of Davenport claiming it no longer exists. Attorneys Nichols Nichols and St Clair seek court approval to transfer that share to Clark's widow Mary A. Clark of Vinton. Sylvia Clark's death three years ago left Minnie Means of California as heir to half the farm, while one quarter goes to the Methodist Episcopal church here.
Twenty financiers from various sections of Benton County attended the regular monthly meeting of the Benton County Bankers Association at the Country club last night. The session centered on financial problems facing banks nationwide.
Dale Roszell a former Winton boy arrived in Vinton with Army sergeant Huguet after a nonstop eight hour flight from Kelly Field San Antonio. They stopped briefly in Dallas and Kansas City for fuel and minor motor work. Huguet will return the plane to Haineis then fly back to Vinton after August first to pick up Roszell and return to Kelly Field.
Spanish air forces bombed the Rif tribesmen in Morocco destroying a rebels supply base at Benichalda and detonating tons of ammunition in the July 17 report from Madrid.
Washington reports shells dropped within a half block of the American consulate in Sao Paulo amid federal rebel fighting. A 15,000 federal force surrounded the city while bombardments damaged many buildings and killed six at the Hotel d Oreste. Civilians fled as shells struck near key sites.
A severe storm hit St Louis today snapping trees and telephone poles, damaging buildings and crippling power service. Fires started by downed live wires added danger as the fire department worked through a paralyzed alarm system. Property damage exceeds half a million dollars with no reported casualties.
Eugene Singer a former German army officer was arrested in Dubuque Iowa charged with shooting 14 year old Mark Webb on his property. The eye wound from a German cane gun may blind one eye though other injuries are not expected to be serious.
In a rural southeast community, Joseph Graham and Frank Sanders faced arraignments for attacking Ethel Meyers Jr. during a near downtown dispute linked to a prior illicit rum raid. Meyers Sr. filed warrants for disorderly conduct after the melee. Sanders paid 15 dollars and costs, Graham 10 dollars.
Newhall Savings bank filed two mortgage foreclosures in district court against Roy Dickson and five others and against Inez Dickson and seven others over the Dickson farm in Canton township. The actions seek judgments totaling 2,587,329 dollars in the first case and 9,260.73 dollars in the second, both based on farm mortgages.
Paris reports pilots Coupet and Drouhin landed after a record flight of 87 hours 59 minutes and 10 seconds. They surpassed the previous record held by Americans MacReady and Kelly.
A divorce petition in district court alleges Philip Kovar forced his wife to work on his harvest farm for seventeen years. The filing claims Mrs Kovar refused due to imminent birth, describes repeated cruelty, and seeks $10,000 permanent alimony, custody of three children, restraining orders, and division of $25,000 in Kovar assets.
July 17 Kansas City reports the death toll from a fire in a negro apartment house rising to seven as five bodies are recovered by firemen and police. Two firemen perished in the ruins, Carl Harvey died instantly, John Hayden died later in hospital from injuries. The remaining victims are named as negro residents.
Two speeders, John Carlson and Clare McClintock, both residents near the city, were fined $1 and costs after arraignment before Mayor George Urice. Each was charged with violating local traffic regulations. Several other speeders are slated to appear in the mayor's court before Saturday.
Wall Lake Iowa July 17 reports William D Davis who murdered his mother in law June 21 seeks commutation of his life sentence after a guilty plea a community sentiment inquiry asks if the sentence should be extended.
