South English Excursion Celebrates New Rail Line
A large crowd gathered as the B. C. & N. line to South English opened with a Cedar Rapids Muscatine excursion. The train, led by conductor Tob Sammers, stopped at Iowa City Riverside Wellman Emross and ended at South English where thousands welcomed the riders. Speeches praised railroads, local progress and the new valley prosperity, with guards from Muscatine and a large farmers’ turnout. The day closed with military drills and high hopes for coal field access and Cedar Rapids growth.
