Bridal garter customs and ancient court case in Alsace
The fragment recounts a bridal garter rite with the garter colored red white and blue tied to guests, a Colmar court case over wearing ribbons during a national festival era, and a prosecutor’s charge alongside a defense about symbols and legality. It also notes the 1848 law context and details about defendants Geist and others and their proceedings.

Names and curiosities in a long-ago column
A garbled news column mentions odd baby names such as Emancipation Proclamation Baxter and Perseverance dove, notes a Franklin grave inscription, describes a train incident with a busted coupling link, and reports 1885 French vintage and cider yields with references to the New England Historic Genealogical Society reflecting on preserving family lines and history.
