Editorial Notes on German Voters and Political Quips
Editorial notes allege anti German bias over the amendment while quoting a Charles City resident naming 67 Germans favoring prohibition. The column recounts Garibaldi cremation plans and deadpan jokes about world destruction, a New York felony for suicide attempts, and Congressional strife with biting, cynical satire.
Fragmented political commentary and congressional notes
A garbled reading covers Democratic and Republican mentions in Congress. It notes Oregon’s off year election results, Garibaldi’s death resolved in Congress, French hospitality at Yorktown, George W. Jones’s austere Washington life, and Guiteau’s attorney seeking a new hearing.
