Drowning of Two College Students in Cedar River
Mount Vernon reports the drowning of George B. Hammond and Arthur J. Bronson while bathing at the Cedar River near Point of Rocks below Ivanhoe bridge. A crowd searched all night as a strong current swept swimmers downstream. Bronson’s body was recovered Sunday morning and Hammond’s later. Both were Miltonian Literary Society members with strong character and intellect. funerals and college exercises were held or postponed as faculty and students gathered to mourn.
