A fragment filled with religious exhortations and testimonials touts cures and tonics. It cites uses for coughs, croup, and rheumatic pains, urging readers to buy products from W.L. Weller and Wheeler & French. It includes notes from Dr. Josep Bean and references to Shiloh’s Catarrh Remedy and California Kidney Tea as remedies.
A complete Viking warship was found buried in a tumulus near Gogstad Norway. The seventy four foot long vessel, with shields along its sides and a mast recess, yielded bronze and copper fittings, carved dragon heads, two small boats, and bone remains after excavation led by Nicolaysen and supported by the Society for the Preservation of Ancient Monuments. A grave robbery had partly stripped the tomb, leaving bones, horse remains and some valuables. The craft will be left in place with a protective roof while smaller artifacts are sent to Christiania.
