Political rants and reform echoes in 19th century press
Editorial notes deride factions and leaders across parties. It cites Democratic and Republican figures, court and presbyterial actions, and calls for ballot protection amid fraud fears. The piece mocks critics while defending integrity and urging reforms. Nearby, an advertisement touts a medicated salve promising cure and refund.
Washington inaction and party friction dominates Congress
All eyes turn to Washington as Congress makes no real progress since its start. The Democratic majority is blamed for stalling reforms while the Senate reshuffles leadership. Debates flare over coercion, unconstitutional moves, and opposition to national election law changes. Music will accompany the scene as tensions rise.

Movements of Wheat and Market Estimates
Reports show dull grain markets with steady exports and large official movements. For the week ending the 22d stock in sight fell about 95 000 bushels while afloat stock rose 500 000. The Agricultural Bureau pegs the crop at 423 000 000 bushels, a figure others dispute. Exports total 113 000 000 bushels with home bread needs 295 000 000, seed 82 000 000, and remaining in sight about 19 600 000. Estimated exports in four months 3 000 000 more, with 402 000 000 accounted for. If one-eighth of surplus remains with farmers, no more export for flour is expected. Liverpool prices and stock data are cited. Chandler, Brows & Co Milwaukee March 21 1879. Hall's Balsam for the Lungs advertised as a cough remedy. Sold by W. B. Weller.
