Denver based Shattuck Chemical Co terminates its 10 year lease talks to locate a molybdenum roasting plant at Cedar Rapids old water pollution control site 1225 Burlington St SW The move ends a two year effort with Amoco Minerals and leaves the city with a projected loss of lease income jobs and tax base The council opposed the site over environmental concerns and a slim 3 2 vote approved the lease in 1981 with Shattuck and Amoco still eyeing Iowa locations despite the pullout

A 16 year old Cedar Rapids boy was arrested after allegedly fondling a 23 year old woman in the 200 block of Fifth Street SE. He was charged with assault and held on $550 bond. The woman suffered black eyes a bloody nose and facial lacerations. A second incident reports a woman struck by a passing truck near A Avenue and 10th Street NE.
