The United Nations Security Council approved a large peacekeeping plan for South West Africa to ensure free elections and a smooth transition to independence. The mission could deploy up to 7,500 troops, 360 civilian police, and 1,200 poll watchers, with costs up to 300 million dollars over one year.
United States farm prices edged up 2 percent in September, ending a two month summer decline. The Crop Reporting Board cited higher cattle, grapefruit, oranges, and milk prices as the main factors, while potatoes corn lemons and rice fell. Yearly comparison shows a 23 percent rise from the prior year.
