Iowa’s Opportunity Gap highlights college race gap in Iowa
The IowaWatch investigation with The Gazette and others shows Latinos and Blacks trail Whites in high school and college graduation across 1960 to 2010. Latinos face the widest gaps with 2010 rates at 53 percent high school and 10 percent college, while Whites reach 92 percent high school and 25 percent college. Programs like Minority Scholars and after school centers in Burlington Fort Dodge and Sioux City aim to raise completion rates, amid parental involvement and economic pressures.
