Man Sentenced In Drug Theft At St Luke's Hospital

Robert L. Manke, 23, of Burlington, received a sentence of up to ten years in the Anamosa reformatory for his role in stealing 697 dollars worth of drugs from St. Luke's hospital on June 2. The case involved nighttime larceny charges linked to the hospital theft. Employee Bryant Knox, 19, Cedar Rapids, also faces larceny charges and is to be sentenced October 10.

Store Robbed For Second Time

University Heights The Fairchild's Fine Food store was robbed Sunday night for the second time in four days. Iowa City police said a man hid in the basement and surprised the night clerk about 6 30 p m as he entered the basement to place receipts in the safe. The robber demanded money and fled with over 100 dollars. A teen robbed the store last Thursday of over 100 dollars and ran away.

Arson Suspected After Des Moines Apartment Fire Kills Four

Authorities say a weekend apartment blaze in Des Moines killed four people and injured eight as detectives questioned a man on a traffic warrant. Fire investigators suspect arson, with four counts possible if a suspect is charged. Names of victims include Barbara Gill and Shawn Gill, ages 5 and 3.

Garold Long Dies Local Insurance Man At 55

Garold Long known as Shorty, 55, longtime Independence business partner at Titsworth Insurance, died Saturday at University of Minnesota Hospitals. He served in World War II and held memberships in the American Legion VFW Wapsipinicon Golf Club Lions Club and Independence Insurance Association. Survived by wife Jane three sons John Bedford Hills New York Jim Missouri Valley Richard Iowa City a daughter Jennifer at home his mother Mrs Jess Long and brother Noel of Knoxville. Services Wednesday at 10:30 A.M. First United Presbyterian Church with flag ceremony at Mt Hope Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 P.M. Monday at Mason Howe. Memorial fund established.

Religion Professor To Speak at Cornell

Studio Theater Announces Auditions For The Brick And The Rose

Open auditions for Lewis John Carlino's The Brick and the Rose, the first production of the reorganized Studio Theater, are set for Wednesday and Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Studio Theater Annex. Director Joe Sax says the theater showcases young talent and offers intimate experience for seasoned actors. The long one act concert drama uses 10 actors to play over 40 roles. the Nov. 12 production will be directed by Rick Titus. Today movie producer Stanley Kramer is 62.
