Plan Women’s Home Army to Get in Scrap
The War Production Board named nine business women to lead a two month mobilization of a women’s home army to boost local salvage committees for a nationwide scrap drive. The effort aims to grow committees from 14,000 to 25,000 by Christmas and integrate women into existing salvage work across the country. Edwina Nolan, Helen Robertson, Jean McDougall, Sally Woodward, Ruth Atwater, Mabel Flanley, Alice Haley, Essie Elliott, and Grace Hartley will coordinate with state committee executive secretaries.
