Cedar Rapids crews held back a rising Cedar River at about 22 feet as miles of barriers berms and thousands of sandbags protected the city. City Manager Jeff Pomeranz said the temporary system built in under two days should shield Cedar Rapids though receding waters remain uncertain.

A crowd of more than 100 gathered near 1500 block of Eighth Avenue SE in Cedar Rapids to mourn 13-year-old Reshia killed by a gunshot. Family and community urged youth to stand against gun violence as candles and balloons were held in tribute. Her sister sobbed that she would never see her again.
The Cedar River topped 22 feet in Cedar Rapids on Tuesday. The National Weather Service projects the river will stay at major flood stage through Friday afternoon, ease to moderate flood stage by Friday, then fall to minor flood stage by Saturday afternoon, before rising again.
