Butter joins Eastern Iowa surplus cheese program distribution
The Iowa Department of Social Services expanding monthly surplus to include butter along with cheese for low income and elderly residents in Eastern Iowa. Linn County receives 18000 pounds of butter and about 40000 pounds of cheese, with new forms and later ID cards to reduce fraud. Volunteers are urged to help unload and distribute at Immaculate Conception School and to assist homebound elderly, with HACAP United Way and the Council on Aging coordinating the effort.

In Linn County, cheese and butter will be distributed Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at multiple Cedar Rapids locations and in Marion, Toddville, Central City, Lisbon, Covington, Walker, and Springville. Iowa County distributes today in South Amana West Amana Amana and Wednesday in Amana. Washington County distributions run Wednesday at several churches and centers. Johnson County offers Wednesday and Thursday picks at multiple Iowa City sites and Solon. Jones County provides Thursday distributions at Anamosa St Patrick School gym and several churches. Wyoming and other towns list additional times locations for cheese.

Marion police arrest three on theft and assault charges
Marion police arrested Claude Casey 19 at 11 34 a m Saturday on assault charges after an alleged attack on Bryan Ware 21. Mary Feuerhelm 19 and Martin Dahl 22 were taken into custody at 11 55 a m Sunday at East End Marion Coin Laundry for allegedly cheating a dollar bill change machine and receiving six dollars in change.
