Dunaway's Crawford in Mommie Dearest a sharp impersonation

Janet Maslin of the New York Times reviews Faye Dunaway's portrayal in Mommie Dearest. Dunaway vividly channels Joan Crawford with intense energy, but the film lacks a coherent throughline, focusing on scattered episodes rather than a clear narrative or humanity. The director Frank Perry emphasizes fury and vanity, yielding a dramatic but uneven portrait.

Hell Night review by John Corry

A mixed horror critique noting Hell Night is an average film for the genre. It critiques its treatment of minorities and disabled characters while highlighting Linda Blair’s escape and a social critique of privileged fraternity life. The piece argues the film is partly original but reaffirms the director’s prudish stance on violence and sex themes.
