Bentler denied inheritance from parents estate
Van Buren District Court in Iowa ruled Shawn Bentler who killed his parents and three sisters in Bonaparte in last year cannot inherit the $2.8 million family estate and his legal fees. The decision, filed Friday, follows state law barring convicted murderers from benefiting from the slayings. Bentler, 23, is serving life in prison after being convicted of five counts of first degree murder and appealing to the Iowa Supreme Court.

Woman charged after Davenport pond crash and escape
Crystal Slack, 44, of Iowa City, faces charges of failure to maintain control and leaving the scene after a car plunged into a Davenport retention pond. A passenger was lightly injured. Slack left the scene then was found in Iowa City. She must appear in court October 9.

Train Derailment Dumps Soybean Meal Near Marquette
