Farmers Income Prospects Dark Says Economist
Urbana Ill with prices of crops and livestock under pressure over the next months farm income prospects are less favorable than last year Roby L Sloan economist for the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago told more than 300 lenders at the 22nd annual Illinois bankers agricultural credit conference at the University of Illinois He said gross incomes will be held up by large volume marketings but costs will rise rapidly and operating margins should be somewhat lower than in the last year The income from expected 1968 production will be offset by low prices but higher costs point to lower net returns in coming months.
