Benny, a longtime mechanic, recalls 46 years of driving a 1950 Chevrolet and now uses a cane after a leg limp slows him. He could have acted in 1935 1936 1950s or 1985 but continues small work keeping out of the way as he plans to fix a neon sign and remains in business at nearly 88.
Cedar Rapids report says local developers seek to rezone land across from Xavier High School from agricultural to PUD R-1 to build seven homes. City Planning Commission will meet at 3 p.m. to consider the request in City Hall. Richard Luther notes plans to remove the old structures and create six two unit homes and one detached unit with a single access road. He reports no opposition to the proposal.
C R Biaggi's requests a R 3 permit for a parking lot and an addition at 4011 Golf St NE. It also seeks to rezone 310 Collins Rd NE from A to C 3A and 320 Collins Rd NE from 1 1A to C 3A. Biaggi's is a Davenport based Italian chain with one local location.
Iowa Breast Cancer Action launches a series on cancer education in Cedar Rapids. Joy Larsen Haidle from University of Iowa Health Care will present Your Family's Health History and how to map a family tree to assess cancer predisposition. Genetic testing and proactive risk tools are scheduled for January and April sessions.
At the Older Iowans Legislature in Des Moines delegates from Cedar Rapids and Iowa City push five priority bills to aid seniors. They seek housing options for elder abuse victims and a $40 million program to help seniors complete Medicare and state aid forms. Rural areas seek better abuse resources.
