Cease-fire Begins as Lebanon War Halts Fire
A cease-fire on the Lebanese civil war took effect at 6 a.m. after announcements by Saudi and Syrian officials and Beirut officials. Four Marines were wounded earlier near the Beirut airport as fighting continued late into the night despite the truce. President Reagan called it a critical first step while urging restraint and reconciliation among involved parties.
