Average Income Per Farm Doesn't Tell Whole Story
A detailed look at farm income by sales class shows large variations. While the $20,000+ sales group earns a high realized net per farm of $13,547, many smaller farms rely heavily on off-farm income, with those under $2,500 averaging $3,502 off-farm per farm. Overall, total cash receipts reach $41.6 billion, with realized gross income at $44.9 billion and net income at $14.2 billion.
Committee Will Continue Probe Of Bread Price
Rep. Graham Purcell and his wheat subcommittees will meet this week to press forward the inquiry into rising bread prices. A decision on new public hearings hinges on a subcommittee study of reports from the Federal Trade Commission and the National Commission on Food Marketing. The FTC report was requested by Agriculture Secretary Orville Freeman, who announced the food price inquiry in August during New York hearings on milk costs.

Hog raisers temper output as prices loom in Iowa

The September pig crop is 8 percent above last year for June to August, foreseeing 7 percent rise in fall farrowings and a 7 percent year over year winter quarter gain. Higher feed costs and labor shortages limit small producers while eastern Iowa hog raisers continue expanding.
