Judge Charles Pen ningroth fined Hubert J. Polton 30 of Engleside addition SW and Elvin H. Regan 57 of Rock Island $300 each after they pled guilty to drunken driving. Polton was arrested Sept 17 in the 700 block of Second Street SW and Regan was arrested Friday at Sixth Street and Wilson Avenue SW.
Joseph J. Gaal aged 17 of 1526 Twelfth Ave SE pled guilty to larceny of a motor vehicle. Judge Sandoe Jordan sentenced him to 10 years in the reformatory with bench parole after guilty plea. He allegedly stole a car Sept 8 on Twentieth Street SE, drove to Ironwood Michigan, and was arrested Sept 9 then returned to Cedar Rapids.
Mary Myers, 52, of Pontiac, Michigan, pled guilty to false uttering of a check. Judge Charles Penningroth handed her a seven year sentence after her Sept. 16 Reno arrest and return to Cedar Rapids to face a $25 bogus check charge from July 25.

Lincolnway Village residents do not need to register to vote in the November 8 election. City Clerk Harold Schaefer said several people from the area south of Highway 30 were turned away. Lincolnway Village remains outside Cedar Rapids city limits, and registration applies only to voters inside the boundary.

Louis Ohsman, president of Ohsman and Sons Co., World War I veteran and Cedar Rapids resident for 65 years, died in a hospital at 12:55 a.m. Monday. Born November 23, 1894 in Charles City, he married Cielo Abrams on October 14, 1923 in New York. Surviving are his wife, two sons Seymour and Eugene, two brothers Edward and Herman, a sister Mrs Irving Baum, and five grandchildren. Services Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Turner Chapel, burial Eben Israel Cemetery. memorials to Heart Fund suggested.
Nellie Agnes McDowell died Sunday at age 55. She lived at 1227 Fourth Ave SE Cedar Rapids and owned Mona beauty shop 25 years before retirement. Born May 4 1879 near Oxford she was affiliated with Olivet Presbyterian Church since 1906. Surviving: daughter Mona Lurber Denver CO son Clyde Wadsworth OH three grandchildren eight great grandchildren. Services Tuesday 10 at Brady Mortuary conducted by Rev Robert J MacDanel. Burial Garden Grove Cemetery near Leon. Friends may call at the funeral home.
Walter Walburg of Minneapolis died in Cedar Rapids hospital after a sudden illness. Born September 30, 1903, in Minneapolis, he leaves wife Elise, two daughters Mrs. John Thompson and Carol Johnson, two sons Walter H. and Charles H., four brothers, a sister, and eight grandchildren. A Lutheran, he was moved from Turner chapel to Albin funeral home in Minneapolis.
George A. Johnson once office manager and secretary of Cedar Rapids Pump Co died Saturday in San Diego. He was born September 7, 1883 in Toddville and was a former Cedar Rapids resident. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs.
Howard Lee and son George B Johnson of Xenia California are named along with brother Arthur Johnson of Cedar Rapids and seven grandchildren. Johnson belonged to St. Pauls Methodist church Mt Herman lodge A F and A M Iowa Consistory El Kabir Shrine Gethsemane White Shrine and Malta chapter OBS. Entombment is planned in the Chapel of Memories after services by Dr Jackson Burns and Mt Hermon lodge.
The service is at 1 30 yesterday by the Rev Theodore A Youngquist at First Lutheran Church for Mrs Charles Wright. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call at Turner Chapel until 11 am Tuesday and at the church from 11 am to 1 25 pm. The casket will not be opened after the service.
A Des Moines jury of two men and ten women began deliberating the fate of Russell F. Shafer 26 Cedar Rapids charged with first degree murder in the death of Inez Ringgenberg 33 Des Moines. The case followed closing arguments after a trial that began last week with four possible verdicts including the death penalty. The coroner timed the death at about 7 am April 26 and Ringgenberg’s body bearing multiple stab wounds was found along a county road northwest of Ankeny.
In Havana the semiofficial newspaper Revolucion urged Cubans to place radio and TV sets near windows so a maximum number of people could catch Prime Minister Castro’s United Nations General Assembly address.
Cedar Rapids City Council sets October 20 as bid opening for a 1.33 million dollar main line of the Indian creek interceptor sewer system. Public hearing on plans and specs scheduled for 10 a.m. three weeks from next Thursday. The project ties to Marion, with a two city program costing about 3 million dollars including a new Cedar River plant.
