West Union tops Elgin 18-0 in conference clash

West Union dominated the game, scoring in all but one quarter to defeat Elgin 18 to 0. Harold Durscher led the Bombers with two touchdowns, including a 45 yard run and another 45 yard scamper. Burns added a short TD finish on a 50 yard drive as Lyle Capper stood out for Elgin.

Elkader Tops Sumner 18 7 In Gridiron Clash

Elkader defeated Sumner 18 to 7 behind 290 rushing yards led by Frank Gilson and David Davidsaver. Davidsaver opened scoring with an eight yard run after a 21 yard gallop, Gilson added a 42 yard TD after an interception, Sumner answered with Jack Landflow scoring from the two, and Gilson sealed it with a two yard run after Donlin set up a six yard advance.

Oelwein Tops Waverly in 15-6 Northeast Iowa Victory

Oelwein Huskies defeated Waverly 15-6 in a Northeast Iowa league game. All scoring occurred in the first half with Leo Campbell making a key defensive play and John Monahan connecting with Del Maurer for 30 yards, followed by Glenn Borland on a 40 yard pass. Keokuk inks player pact with Indians

Keokuk will become the third Three-I league club in three years to operate with a player agreement from the Cleveland Indians for 1954. The Kernels signed the pact after Cedar Rapids and Peoria left Cleveland in recent years. Kirk Herrick said Keokuk may keep some current players as the club resumes a farm-backed roster. Cleveland’s success in the minors suggests an improved Keokuk team next season.
