Holiday retailer hiring seen falling about seven percent
Challenger, Gray & Christmas estimates U.S. retailers will hire about 700,000 temporary workers this holiday season, down from 751,800 last year. The forecast follows cautious results at Macy’s and Wal-Mart, with consumer sentiment sinking to a cycle low and store traffic projected lower. Wal-Mart plans 55,000 seasonal hires, up 10 percent, while Target hires about 70,000, 20 percent fewer than last year.
