Forum argues corporations worsen ag distress for farmers
A Cedar Rapids forum organized by Rep. Dick Gephardt drew about 80 attendees to Kirkwood Community College to hear 13 speakers on how U.S. agricultural policy and big firms threaten family farmers. Speakers warned low prices hide hunger, cited contract work, cross-agency ties, and the shift to low‑wage, nonunion jobs, arguing monopolies depress prices and destabilize rural communities.
