No special session for Iowa budget deficit in 2003
Iowa officials ruled out a second special legislative session this year to fix a $64 million deficit for fiscal 2003. Gov. Tom Vilsack and House Speaker Christopher Rants backed delaying the work to January’s regular session to save taxpayers the cost of a one day session. Auditor David Vaudt said the deficit must be noted in the fiscal 2003 report and cannot be avoided by an extra session.
