John Toppenberg a retired major crimes detective quietly photographs loons on Loon Lake Sterling Alaska over five years. He builds trust letting the birds approach eye level revealing intimate moments of a breeding pair and their chicks. The loons return each May and migrate in fall with one or two eggs annually. five years of shoots saw only one chick lost to an eagle.
