Mini Cooper upgrades spark interest in postwar revival market

Eric Savage of Helix Minisports expands in Philadelphia as aftermarket parts for the Mini trend upward. The 35 year old ex musician and brewmaster sees strong consumer demand, with U.S. after market sales hitting 26 billion in 2001. Savage shows off a carbon intake, high flow exhaust and high energy spark plugs. He competes with Minimotors of Santa Rosa, Calif., and aims to keep development in house while distributing other makers’ parts. The new Mini debuted in the United States in late March and BMW targets about 20,000 sales this year. He notes a growing pool of enthusiasts ready to upgrade performance.
