OWA STATE 42 TROY STATE 12 AT AMES. Attendance 44,896. Team statistics show a decisive win as the Cyclones dominate Troy State on home turf with the final score 42 to 12.
ISU defeats Troy State 42 to 12 with a fourth quarter surge after leading 35 12 at three quarters. Key moments include JaMaine Billups blocking a punt, Seneca Wallace connecting with Lance Young and Jack Whitver, and Olmsted adding a late field goal. Todd Miller 45 punt return caps late scoring.
Iowa State clinched a 35-6 win over Troy State behind quarterback Wallace who threw for 295 yards and three TDs, boosting a showdown next Saturday with 18th ranked Nebraska for the Big 12 North lead. Wallace accounted for two more TDs and the Cyclones added two special teams scores as they prepare for the Huskers.
Iowa State coach Dan McCarney awarded Andy Kohler a scholarship before the season. Kohler recovered a blocked punt and returned it 22 yards for a first quarter touchdown in a 42-12 victory over Troy State. JaMaine Billups also blocked a punt.
Ames native Kohler, a walk-on turned wide receiver and key special teams contributor, secured a decisive punt return for ISU. Star receiver Jack Whitter posted back to back 100 yard games, moving into a school record pace behind Seneca Wallace’s 295 yards passing.
