The Iowa target for 1942 beef and veal production is 2 430 038 000 pounds, up from 2 094 860 000 in 1941, announced at Chicago during the agricultural defense conference. Federal figures show a national slaughter goal of 28 000 000 head next year, with 17 700 000 cattle and 10 300 000 calves, while government aims focus on increasing total slaughter to curb rising cattle numbers.

Government Delays Beef Inclusion in Price Support Plan
Department officials say no immediate steps to include beef in current price support. The 1942 production goal for beef is 28 million head, up from 25.4 million in 1941 and 24.85 million from 1936-40. Beef producers lack assured profits, must buy replacement stock, and fear favorable treatment of others in the plan.
